In September 2010 Virgin Mobile announced the release of a new unlimited data plan for its mobile MiFi hotspot. The plan costs $40 a month with no contract. This means it can be activated and used whenever necessary without the need to deal with contract limitations or early cancellation fees. There is no activation fee, no credit check, no speed restriction and it comes linked to the Sprint 3G wireless network.

Is Virgin Mobile Internet New?

Although MiFi has been around for over a year now this major change in plan options could possibly open up an entirely new volley in the ISP wars. Internet service providers will have to act quickly not to lose their customers to this new service from Virgin Mobile. It is expected that several mobile providers will have similar plans in place by early 2011, but that may be too late for them. If Virgin Mobile gets enough subscriptions they may monopolize the industry.
