Did you know that 1.2 million people died in automobile accidents last year worldwide, and that even more are expected to die next year? Nobody wants to be a statistic, but accidents happen all the time. Nobody wants accidents to happen. Nobody tries to wreck their or your car. It just happens. That’s why they are called “accidents.”

But there are a number of things you can do to prevent accidents, to turn the odds in your favor, to not have an “accident.” It goes without saying that drinking and driving is absolutely something that should never be done, no matter what, so I’m not even going to talk about that huge cause of accidents, caused by irresponsible behavior. In my mind, the penalties for such foolishness are not high enough.

Now, here are a few simple things you can do to keep from becoming a statistic

Distracted Driving is a Huge Factor in Causing Accidents.

How many times have you seen people talking on their phones while driving? How many texting? Or fishing for that last French fry at the bottom of the container? I’ve even seen people staring at laptops on their steering wheel. People do almost everything while behind the wheel except drive. Distracted driving has become a nationwide fatal disease. Who wants to die while searching for a Rolling Stones CD, or looking for a dropped cigarette? The solution is simple. Pay attention. And pull over if you absolutely have to do something that takes your attention away from driving. The trick is to keep enjoying the Rolling Stones for years to come.
